Jonas van Tol is universitair docent vroegmoderne geschiedenis, met een focus op oorlog, conflict en geweld voor ca. 1800. Voordat hij bij de UvA werd aangesteld behaalde hij zijn BA Geschiedenis (University of York, 2011), Mphil vroegmoderne geschiedenis (University of Cambridge, 2012), en PhD (York, 2016). Van 2016 tot 2018 was hij werkzaam als universitair docent aan de Universiteit Leiden. In zijn onderzoek en onderwijs richt hij zich vooral op de transnationale impact van religieus geweld ten tijde van de Reformatie. Zijn bijzondere interesse gaat uit naar de verwevenheid van de Franse Religieoorlogen met andere Europese conflicten, bijvoorbeeld de Nederlandse Opstand.
