We will continue re-landscaping the outdoor area between REC J/K and B/C in December. We will replace the cables and pipes under the staircase leading to REC B/C and will also modify the staircase itself. The renovation of the building for the psychologists (REC G) will be completed this month. Please find details of the work and any inconvenience it may cause below.

Outdoor areas

In June 2014, work was started on the outdoor areas with the aim of making them attractive to students, staff, local residents and visitors. The outdoor areas on the campus are being re-landscaped and below-ground work is now being carried out on pipes and cables. The water supply and sewerage will be renewed and a number of trees will be felled. New paving will be laid and replacement trees planted. A number of areas on the campus are now ready. Here you can see how the outside areas will look once the work is complete.

Area between REC J/K and B/C

The work on the area between Valckenierstraat and Nieuwe Achtergracht (between REC J/K and B/C) will continue until 15 January. We will be working on this area longer than expected, because underground obstacles were discovered that were not present on the map.

How will this affect you?

The area will be fenced off until 15 January. Pedestrians, cyclists and other traffic will be diverted around the work area via the known routes. The direct route between CREA and REC J/K will be closed off for several days in the week of 14 December. The diversion will run around the construction site and will be indicated with signs. From 19 December to 8 January, the work here will cease in connection with the Christmas holidays.

Work under the staircase leading to the building of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (B/C)

We will replace the cables and pipes under the staircase leading to the REC B/C entrance between 14 and 18 December.

How will this affect you?

We do not expect these activities to cause any inconvenience. The stairs will remain in use and the route between CREA and REC E will remain open. The floating bicycle platform will also remain accessible.

Modification of the staircase of the building of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (REC B/C)

In the last week of December (week 53), we will remove one of the two staircases that lead to the entrance of building B/C (see photograph). The other staircase (leading to CREA) will remain in use. The staircase needs to be modified to enable preparations to be made for the construction of the new bridge over the canal.

How will this affect you?

The work on the staircase is not expected to cause any inconvenience. The B/C building will be accessible via a single staircase as of 1 January.

Future building for psychologists (REC G)

The renovation of REC G will be completed in mid December. Facility Services will take over the building and ensure that the furnishings are ready for the arrival of the psychologists in early February.

The work on the Roeterseiland Campus will start again in January 2016. We will post an overview of the work in January on the site before Christmas.
