BG5, a former clinic building located on the Binnengasthuisterrein, is known for its distinctive pyramid-shaped extension along Vendelstraat. This building is set to be repurposed to once again accommodate the education and research activities of the Faculty of Humanities (FGw), encompassing large lecture halls, study areas and food and beverage facilities. However, as the structure currently not suit its desired function, a design process is underway to facilitate its future use.
  • Our Ambition

BG5 will serve as a cohesive educational building for the Faculty of Humanities, featuring classrooms, study spaces, offices, an auditorium, a food court, grab-and-go facilities and a lounge area. The multifunctional space next to the entrance will accommodate meetings and VOX-POP. The building's monumental character will be preserved while receiving a suitable addition in the form of a newly built atrium.

  • Timeline

The construction work will start at the earliest after the summer of 2024. The building is scheduled to be completed in 2027. After completion, FGw will address the final interior elements and move into the building.

Before work begins, internal decision-making within the UvA and the permitting process with the municipal authorities must be completed. The design is currently in the concept phase.
