Divided into Phases

The overall approach to the Oudemanhuispoort complex is divided into three phases:

• Phase 1: Refurbishment of the square (A) and buildings on Slijkstraat (C and D)
• Phase 2: Renovation, restoration, and sustainability of buildings on Kloveniersburgwal (E and F) and Oudezijds Achterburgwal (B)
• Phase 3: Renovation, restoration, and sustainability of the square (A) and buildings on Slijkstraat (C and D)

The division into three phases provides the UvA with more time to further develop the building along Slijkstraat in collaboration with the municipality. Additionally, the phased approach makes the (financial) risks more manageable and allows the UvA to keep the (four) large lecture halls in the Slijkstraat building (D) continuously available for education for the growing student population. In the coming period, the UvA will conduct further technical and programmatic studies, and decision-making and planning will be prepared.

Phased Approach Impacts Other Parts of the University Quarter

In 2025, several projects in the University Quarter will simultaneously be in progress. All these construction activities will affect the accessibility of the area and buildings for emergency services, supply, residents, and students. This calls for good collaboration with all stakeholders.
