The City of Amsterdam is hard at work on the public space at Amsterdam Science Park. This comprises all green areas, paving and amenities around Matrix One and LAB42. The work consists of three phases. Additionally, a new temporary bicycle parking facility has been created near the side entrance of the Faculty of Science building.
Central square Matrix ONE

Phase 1

This phase has already been completed. It involved work on the area bordered by LAB42, the beach volleyball pitches and the Faculty of Science building. New paving was laid and new street lighting installed.

Phase 2

This phase is currently in progress. It involves work on the central square between Matrix One and LAB42. New paving is being laid and public seating is being installed. In addition, lamp posts are being erected. This work will be completed in the coming period.

Phase 3

In this final phase, the City will carry out work on the public footpaths at the front of LAB42 and the rear of Matrix One. It expects to start this work in mid-January.

Completion

If everything goes according to plan, the public space will be completed by spring 2023. As a finishing touch, plants and trees will be planted in the area.

New temporary bicycle parking facility

Additional bicycle parking facility

An additional temporary bicycle parking facility has been installed at Amsterdam Science Park. This new facility for bicycles and motor scooters can be found across from the volleyball pitches, near the side entrance of the Faculty of Science building.

The additional bicycle parking facility was needed because of a lack of space in the already existing temporary facility in front of the Faculty of Science building. It will eliminate the nuisance of stray bicycles in the area.

New permanent buildings to house the bicycle parking facilities will be constructed in the area later, at which point the temporary facilities will make way for trees or other greenery.
