The development of the public space surrounding the Lab42 and Matrix One buildings is set to go ahead following their completion. Unfortunately, due to global supply issues, the work will be starting later than planned. The contractor is expected to start in September.

Plot 12

The buildings on construction zone 12 are increasingly taking shape. Two new buildings are being constructed on construction zone 12: Matrix One and LAB42. Matrix One is Matrix IC’s newest building and will accommodate businesses and researchers working in the domain of sustainability. LAB42 is a new building of the University of Amsterdam that will feature facilities for research and teaching with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and Informatics. The building will also accommodate entrepreneurs. Both buildings are set to be completed this summer.

Public space

At present, there are problems with the supply of construction materials worldwide. The contractor (KWS) who will be developing the public space is likewise waiting for building materials, such as stones and concrete seating edges. The materials will be delivered in September at the earliest. However, this is too late for the completion of Matrix One and LAB42. For that reason, the contractor will temporarily be laying down concrete slabs around the buildings. This will ensure that the buildings have proper access for the opening. Trees and plants will be planted once the area goes into its final phase of development and landscaping.
