University Quarter in development
The University Quarter is undergoing significant change: transforming the heritage buildings into functional university facilities through refurbishment, renovation and sustainability upgrades, all the way through to the eventual design of the public realm. The University of Amsterdam is working closely with the City of Amsterdam on this transition.

The University Quarter is home to the Faculty of Humanities and is the location of the University Library, the Allard Pierson and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. It is the birthplace of the University of Amsterdam: the place for progressive education and ground‑breaking research. The University Quarter stands for calm and reflection, and for collaboration with renowned research institutions, cultural and civil‑society organisations and businesses.
