The building will house lecture rooms, study and work areas and a large lecture hall where lecturers can teach smaller groups within a large group. Specific facilities in the building will make both on-site and online teaching possible. Underneath the building, a bicycle parking facility will be built with room for 128 bicycles, which will be accessible via a separate entrance in the building.

In 2020, work began on the Schedule of Requirements (SoR) and the Preliminary Design (PD). The SoR sets out the UvA’s wishes and requirements for REC P, such as in terms of designated uses, space and facilities. In the PD, an architect translates the SoR into ideas and sketches for the execution of the work. Both were completed in early 2021. This was followed by the interior design process and further detailing of the floor plans. The renovation is now in full swing and a great deal of work has already been done on both the interior and exterior of the building. REC P is expected to be put into use from the academic year 2023-2024.
