December 2016 & January 2017: What are we working on?
In the coming months, work will be concentrated on two locations on campus: in the future home of the Faculty of Law at Roetersstraat 15 (Building A) and on the northern quay of the Nieuwe Achtergracht canal (including the bridge). The work itself is not expected to cause significant inconvenience. However, the delivery of materials and machines via Roetersstraat may do so.
Work on Building A, Faculty of Law
The roof of the auditorium on the third floor has been replaced and new roofing material is now being installed. Work on the roof is expected to be completed in the course of December.
In week 49, beginning 5 December, various materials will be delivered via the entrance to the car park under the building.
How will this affect you?
The presence of workers on the roofs and the work itself may be audible in the surrounding buildings.
During delivery of materials via the underground parking facility, a lorry will be parked kerbside on Roeterstraat between 07:00 and 08:30. A traffic warden will ensure safe passage for cyclists and pedestrians.
The other work being carried out in Building A is expected to cause minimal inconvenience.
Northern quay of the Nieuwe Achtergracht canal
The northern quay of the Nieuwe Achtergracht canal is being re-landscaped. The quay itself is being restored, steps to the water are being installed and red brick paving is being laid. The work is set to be completed by the end of the year. This campus entrance route will reopen in early January.
How will this affect you?
Running machine engines and brick settling may cause noise nuisance. Lorries delivering sand and bricks may cause additional traffic in Roetersstraat. An additional traffic warden will be on duty. The contractor has been urgently requested not to transport goods or park lorries in Roeterstraat during the periods when children are dropped off at and picked up from the Boekmanschool.
Bridge over the Nieuwe Achtergracht canal
The new bridge, directly linking the exit of Buildings D/E/H and the new hall of Buildings A/B/C will be completed in January. The bridge will be open for use once the southern quay of the Nieuwe Achtergracht canal has been completed and the hall of Buildings A/B/C is accessible.
