The new University Library

The University Library (UB) is moving from Singel and the PC Hoofthuis building to the University Quarter. Here, we are renovating the former Binnengasthuis Hospital and combining this with a new wing to form a single building for the library. The University Library will open in 2024 and will become one of the main attractions of the campus.

Study, research and work
The building has been designed as a 21st-century library, an inspiring meeting place where you can study, conduct research and work. A place where the entire academic community is welcome and feels at home.

Seven kilometres of books
We facilitate research and knowledge sharing. In addition to the extensive digital collection, the new University Library will also house seven kilometres of books from the University's humanities collection. This is unique. Our heritage collections are located a stone's throw away in the Allard Pierson, which curates and presents them.

Platform
Together with the Allard Pierson and other parties, we offer a platform to further increase the visibility of the University of Amsterdam (UvA). The splendid atrium, at the heart of the building, is ideal for information meetings, open days, activities and events.
