The Faculty of Law will relocate to its new building at Roetersstraat 15. Renovation work on this building (REC A) started at the beginning of 2013. The Faculty of Law will relocate to the Roeterseiland campus in the summer of 2017. The big entrance hall, the bike shelter and the teaching rooms will all open at the start of the new academic year.
The main entrance to the building for the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (REC B/C) and the building for the Faculty of Law will be situated between both of these buildings. Under the main entrance, users will find the underground cycle park, which will have space for 2,200 bicycles.
When finished, the big lecture room will be able to seat 450 people. There will also be two smaller rooms, each with a capacity of 150 people, and six seminar rooms. The building will also include a Law Library, a mock courtroom and a minimum of 275 study spaces.
In addition to new facilities for education and research, the ground floor of the building will also include space for small-scale shops and catering. Both the shops and catering will focus on students, staff and local residents as well.
The final phase of construction work for REC A started in June 2016. The contractor must have completed its work by the end of July 2017. At the start of the 2017-2018 academic year, the entrance hall, bicycle park, car park, study spaces and teaching rooms will all be brought into use.
