In September, we will be carrying out the final work on Building E, continuing the renovation of Building G and proceeding with the organisation of the outdoor area. Please find details of the work and any inconvenience it may cause below.

Future location of the Faculty of Law (Building A, Roetersstraat 15)

In the coming months, work will be carried out on the canal sides of Nieuwe Achtergracht near Building A. This is necessary in order to build steps there at a later date. Therefore, sheet piling needs to be installed. The opportunity will also be taken to replace the underground cables and pipelines. Currently, no timetable has been set to carry out this work. As soon as this is known, we will inform you.

Hoisting work at the Faculty of Economics and Business (Building E, Roetersstraat 11)

On Monday 7 and Monday 14 September, hoisting work will be carried out from the grounds between Buildings E and G. On 7 September, a 50-metre-high tower crane will be used to lift various materials, including an extractor fan, onto the roof of Building E. On 14 September, a smaller telescopic crane will be used to lift various items, such as insulation material.

The cranes will arrive on campus early in the morning via Nieuwe Prinsengracht and the work will be carried out between 7.00 and 12.00. Traffic regulators will be used to ensure the safe passage of students and staff while the work is being carried out. The bicycle park under Building E will remain accessible.

Maintenance work on the future Psychology Department (Building G, Nieuwe Prinsengracht 130)

Hoisting work will also be carried out this month at Building G. An air-conditioning system and a number of large steel beams will be hoisted. The hoisting work will be carried out between 7.00 and 14.00 on Tuesday 8 September and between 7.00 and 17.00 on Wednesday 16 September. The cranes will arrive via Nieuwe Prinsengracht and will be positioned on the grounds between Buildings E and G.

Traffic regulators will also be used for this hoisting work. During the work, the bicycle park under Building E will remain open.

Work will be mainly carried out inside the building during the rest of the month. Occasionally, it will be necessary to continue work on Saturdays. This too will take place mainly indoors. Working hours on Saturdays are between 8.00 and 16.00. Delivery and removal of materials will not take place on Saturdays but during the week.

The first staff members are expected to move into the building early next year.

Starting from early next year, Psychology will also be moving to the Roeterseiland Campus.

Outdoor area

New cables and pipes, canal sides and paving

The outdoor areas on campus will be re-landscaped and underground work will be carried out on pipes and cables. Work being carried out on the Green Nose will be completed this month. Except for some minor paving work, maintenance work being carried out on Nieuwe Prinsengracht and Nieuwe Achtergracht on the side of the Lab (Building L) has been completed. The route has been reopened for traffic. The number of bicycle parking spaces along Nieuwe Prinsengracht has been increased by installing bicycle racks and new seating areas have been created.

Landscaping work began in June 2014. This is a large-scale project aimed at creating an open and attractive outdoor area for students, staff, local residents and visitors.

The side entrance of Building B/C on Valckenierstraat

As of 1 September, the side entrance of Building B/C (also an emergency exit) is only accessible to disabled students, staff and visitors. Disabled students and staff who use this entrance can use their access pass to enter the building. Disabled visitors can use the intercom to gain access. The door will be opened for them. Seeing that the door is also an emergency exit, it can always be opened from the inside. We trust that this will prevent any inconvenience to the area resulting from the flow of cyclists and pedestrians.

Consultation will begin in early September with all contractors and users on the Roeterseiland Campus about the planning of maintenance work in the last quarter of 2015. As soon as there is more information available, we will let you know.

As from Tuesday, 1 September, the entrance on Valckeniersstraat is open exclusively to persons with reduced mobility.
