Work on the outdoor areas

In March, we will be working on the outdoor areas between the Buildings E and G, along the Nieuwe Prinsengracht canal and in front of CREA. The outdoor areas on the campus are being re-landscaped and below-ground work is being carried out on pipes and cables. The water supply and sewers will be renewed and where necessary, we will remove contaminated soil. New paving will also be laid and new lighting installed. In this way, we will make the outdoor areas on campus attractive for students, employees, local residents and visitors. A number of areas on campus are now ready.

How will this affect you?

The first new paved area in front of CREA will be completed in early March and brought into use straight away. We will then repave the area alongside the building. CREA remains accessible. Work in this area is due for completion before the end of the month.

Access to the campus via Nieuwe Prinsengracht is closed until the end of May. The bicycle parking facility under Building E is accessible via Nieuwe Achtergracht and from the square in front of the entrance to Building E (Roetersstraat 11).

During the coming weeks, we will be working on the soft landscaping (planting) in the area between Buildings E, G and L. The containers that were temporarily located on the platform will also be returned to their original position alongside Building E. We do not expect this work to cause any nuisance.

Work in the Nieuwe Achtergracht canal

Removal of platform

The platform in the Nieuwe Achtergracht canal linking Buildings B/C and E/H will be removed in March. A temporary pontoon bridge was installed at the end of February to maintain a crossing over the canal.

Sheet piling

The sheet piling on the south side of the Nieuwe Achtergracht canal, level with Building A, was installed without any problems. Unfortunately, a number of obstacles were encountered in the floor of the canal on the north side and the installation of the sheet piling here was halted. We are currently investigating these obstacles and how to install the sheet piling at a later date. The sheet piling is needed to reinforce the canal wall so that a new bridge and steps can be built later.

How will this affect you?

Dismantling and removing the platform over the canal may cause some nuisance. As soon as we know the exact date for this work, we will announce it on our site.

Bicycles and scooters

No parking on the canal side next to Building L

Part of the northern canal side of Nieuwe Achtergracht level with Building L has been fenced off. It is not permitted to park bicycles here for the time being as the canal wall is weak and needs reinforcing. It is not yet known exactly when this work will be carried out.

Extra scooter parking spaces

Extra scooter parking spaces have been created alongside the double bicycle racks between CREA and Building J/K. The cycle traffic wardens will direct you to available parking spaces.
