A project team has been set up to supervise the construction of the new building ASP 942, led by a project manager from UvA Real Estate Development (HO). The project team comprises representatives of the building's users, the Informatics Institute (IvI) and the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) as well as of the various support services involved (Facility Services and ICT Services).
On 29 May 2018, the Executive Board approved the project proposal for expanding the Faculty of Science's premises with ASP 942. The planned investment has been included in the framework letter, which has been submitted to the Central Works Council and the Central Student Council for approval to be expected by 13 July.
Because of the significant increase in the numbers of both its students and its staff, the Faculty of Science needs a new building . The building will house the IvI and the ILLC, classrooms, study places and the Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI), which was established in April. Construction will be complete in late 2021.
The project team has formed the following working groups: Offices, Education/Study Places, Research/Special Facilities, Co-creation and Technology. These working groups comprise Faculty of Science students and staff as well as UvA support services staff (Facility Services and ICT Services).
Based on input from these working groups, the project team will draw up a schedule of requirements for the new building. This schedule of requirements will inform the tendering procedures for the architect, building contractor and installation consultant, which will run from June until October 2018. Once the schedule of requirements has been drawn up, the working groups will be disbanded. The project team will then be joined by a design team consisting of the selected architect and consultants.
