A new accommodation for Social and Behavioural Sciences
Building B/C/D
2011 saw the start of the largest project to be carried out as a part of the
Roeterseiland redevelopment effort: renovation of the building over the Nieuwe
Achtergracht designed by architect Gawronski. The building's lower floors were
removed, restoring the view over the entire canal. The building was completed in
early 2014 by contractor BAM,
and will accommodate the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences from the
summer of 2014 onwards. The building was designed by
AHMM architects.
Largest faculty
Social and Behavioural Sciences is the UvA's largest faculty. In addition to buildings B, C and D, building L will also be used to accommodate the faculty's staff and students. Building G will be added to this list in early 2016. The entire faculty will then have relocated to the Roeterseiland Campus.
A new bridge across the water will link the main entrances of buildings B/C/D and A on the Nieuwe Achtergracht. Building B/C/D features four large lecture halls and a large number of tutorial facilities. The building features a total of 218 study places and 43 lounge spaces.
