The City Centre Campus also offers various features that are not exclusively accessible to students or teaching staff. The Allard Pierson Museum and the Special Collections of the University Library on the Oude Turfmarkt are good cases in point.
Connection between the campus and the surrounding city
In the City Centre Campus vision a conscious decision was made to create a seamless connection between the campus and the surrounding city. Facilities such as the Allard Pierson Museum and Special Collections offer added value to students, campus staff, and the surrounding area, stimulating liveliness, interaction and a sense of involvement. The UvA is working to realise its ambitions in close collaboration with the City Centre urban district. Both facilities were renovated in the early two thousands.
The Agnietenkapel (St. Agnes Chapel) on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal also makes up part of the City Centre Campus. The Agnietenkapel is the place where the University of Amsterdam was born.
