Central Energy Supply

The Roeterseiland Campus' existing Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system had become outmoded. The new Central Energy Facility has been renovated and supplemented with new sustainable technologies such a Geothermal Heat Pump (GHP). The GHP uses cold winter air to cool down the building in summer, and uses summer heat to heat the building during winter. This cycle repeats itself throughout the year.

What sort of yields does the new system offer?

The Central Energy Facility (CEF) has not yet been in use for a full year. As a result, the exact savings are not known at the time of writing. However, the new CEF is clearly far more efficient than the former system. On average, buildings fitted with a GHP system consume 30 percent less energy than buildings without a GHP.
